Canyonlands

We got up really early this morning and headed out to Canyonlands National Park and Dead Horse Point State Park. If you like breath taking views of deep canyons then these two places are it. We spent then morning driving from view spot to view spot snapping off pictures as fast as our cameras would allow.
We started out in Canyonlands and watched the sun come up over the canyons and through Mesa Arch which made getting up so darn early worth it. There are literally thousands of miles of trails to hike and since we were short on time we had to settle for the more touristy lookouts, even those were pretty awesome.

Our next stop was Dead Horse State Park. It has an unusual name and as legend goes cowboys one used this plateau to herd wild horses to the edge of this narrow high point, coral them in and then pick out the best ones and let the rest go. However, on one occasion the horses were not let loose and they all died of thirst on the waterless point some 2000 feet high looking straight down on the Colorado River. The view from the point was worth the entrance fee to the state park.

After our tour through the parks we dropped Tyler back off in Moab, said our goodbyes and we were headed for Nevada.
